The Cannes Film Festival title aims to showcase the personal experience each viewer goes through when watching a film. It uses an eye as a central element, a symbol in cinema that has been used since its origin with, for example, “The Man with the Camera” and the title sequence for “Seconds” by Saul Bass.
The Cannes Film Festival, founded in 1938, is a prestigious international event held annually in Cannes, France. For the MOME 705 - Visualization and Concept Storyboarding class, I developed the Cannes Film Festival project, crafting eight storyboards for its title animation. Centered around the viewer's personal cinematic journey, the animation features an iconic eye motif, inspired by cinema's rich history. The grayscale palette pays homage to the festival's origins in 1938 combined with a red accent, yet after reflecting back upon this project I incorporated the festival's signature gold lettering, symbolizing its enduring legacy and future vision.
